I am living in The Netherlands working from my home studio in Amsterdam painting mostly portraits. For variety I make imaginary portraits using collage techniques in combination with painting. Finally, I make portraits with pencil, which I draw as spontaneously and quickly as possible. My main source of inspiration (but not always!) is often derived from men and women fighting in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. What I find interesting and inspires me is what I call "the time in between seconds" at the beginning, during or after the fight. These are the moments I'am looking for: "the jury's decision", "in between rounds", "loosing the fight", "desperation or great joy" and so on. I use a 25th of a second video still of the event as a starting point.
Raised up in a country that produced the greatest painters of the golden age, who seem to watch over my shoulders, there is nothing else to tell more about my work. If you explain too much, you run the risk of losing the magic of the artwork.
Where possible, there must always be something to guess, to fantasize and to interpret, without needing an explanation. (my humble opinion). Hope you enjoy my work!
