Born in 1977 in Split, Croatia. A father and a husband, professor, seaman, programmer, poet and devil’s advocate. In painting I am self taught, as much as one can possibly be; I learned painting similarly as a child develops language – through observation, copying, repetition, trial and error, along with learning the theory and studying the history of arts, continually developing my critical thinking as the most important skill of them all.
Regarding my paintings, I consider them to be thought experiments. I take a subject, incite it and observe what happens. The result is often flirtatious with surrealism, but in my case there are no “chance meetings of sewing machines and umbrellas”, logic and reason are fundamental to my work. Earlier works focused on contemporary remarks on religion which lead to further and broader exploration of the social and philosophical complexities of the liberal world, on larger formats and with less concern with realistic representation.
