Hello, my name is J.A.R. I suffer from P.T.S.D., anxiety, depression, and other mental desorders. I practice DBT- Dialectical behavioral therapy- to help manage my symptoms. Mindfulness is a DBT skill that I have found very helpful. Mindfulness is an awareness of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, & behavioral urges. By learning mindfulness, we are empowered to be in charge of ourselves in a different way. It has been proven that awareness assists in emotional regulation. Mindfulness paintings are mixed media framed art pieces that I started making to increase mindfulness.. These art pieces are great for practicing the DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) mindfulness exercises, Observe and describe. Observe the art piece as just an art piece. Then begin describing; describe the colors you see, the textures, etc. Remember that in DBT it is learned that we Observe&Describe 1) non-judgementally, 2) one-mindfully, & 3) Effectively.
I've taught these skills to the people in my life, regardless of their mental status, and they all say it has improved their lives. It helps us become calmer and make more effective decisions.
