About me
Doddridge Busingye is a contemporary artist based in Kampala, Uganda. His work dares to share his opinion on sociopolitical, economic and gender ironies of his time. Busingye seeks monumentality through simplified composition, a firm structure, and a harmonious interrelation of idealized forms and a few colors. His monochromatic color pallets on his subjects are supported by a subdued range of colors, that for all their expressive earthiness, are often of remarkable subtlety. He endeavors to involve his art directly in the social struggles of post-independence Uganda.
His paintings mainly comprise of figurative compositions of portrait studies, while the sculptures are usually installations of familiar objects, arranged and presented as a statement about his observations of the post-colonial sociopolitical events and personal experiences.
His inspirations are first, personal experiences; that is, his way of life, family, relationships, and his world views. His work is also informed by research through books, documentaries, and the sociopolitical environment.
