About me
From a very young age, Ukrainian-born Alisa May displayed an aptitude for art and a deep enduring love of animals and nature from which she continues to draw inspiration.
After her family emigrated to the US, she studied at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), where she became familiar with a diverse range of media including Chinese brush painting, figure drawing, and illustration. Alisa later deepened her understanding of form and composition when she earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2009. Her interest in ecology then led her to attain a Master’s of Environmental Management from Yale University in 2012. During this time she developed a profound concern for the preservation of the natural world and the wildlife that inhabits it.
Today, May's art combines her diverse artistic influences with a mystical sense of wonder and fragility of nature. Through the juxtaposition of controlled realism and free expression, Alisa May strives to capture sublime, spiritual qualities of nature that defy realism alone.
Alisa May is currently based in Southern California and seeks to inspire appreciation of nature and increase awareness of various environmental causes through her work. She travels at every opportunity to explore wildlife with an ever-deepening understanding of the interconnectedness of the earth and mankind.
