London based artist
“Trauma and Memory” is the title of my series of work. It is based on the idea of rape and sexual abuse around the world. Drawing on my own personal experience, I wanted to express my ideas through painting and raise awareness of the ubiquity of sexual violence and the pain it causes.
The central concept of my paintings is related to the comparison of women to dolls and classical sculptures. Dolls become possessions of children, who create fantasy worlds about them, admire and attempt to emulate them. Ultimately though, when the doll breaks or no longer suits their fantasy worlds, they cast it aside; broken, abandoned, neglected. In a similar way, classical sculptures hide behind a history of sexism and female objectification for the sole sake of the male gaze.
