This installation piece is inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a novel with themes that demonize sexually empowered women. It is also a piece that alludes to Sigmund Freud’s ‘Madonna/Whore Complex’ that is about how society tends to see sexually empowered women and nobility as mutually exclusive. Women are expected to be ‘pure’ and worshipped for being virginal, but at the same time, are always being seen and treated as sex objects. Once a woman becomes sexually empowered, however, she is automatically degraded, shamed, and considered ‘damaged goods.’
