In college, Ed Ruscha encountered Jasper Johns’ artworks and was deeply moved. He voraciously looked, observed and studied leaving a famous statement, “Art has to be something that makes you scratch your head.” Throughout his long career as an artist, he openly credited Jasper Johns along with other masters such as Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg, Edward Hopper and John McLaughlin as sources of his inspiration and style.
