This piece is from my series of mosaics, I call 'Stained Class'. They're inspired from stained glass windows in cathedrals that I've seen during my brief visit to Europe some years back. The intricacies of the coloured glass, and the way light pours in through it has such a unique, almost ethereal effect for me. My original intention with this series was practice for background scenes, though they look great as the full subject.
Creating these pieces is detailed and time-consuming, but the effect is beautiful in my opinion. In this particular piece, I added some warm lighter colours to the centers of some of the background tessellations, to simulate the glow of dying sunlight through the window.
