BBuzzArt - Discover Future Masterpiece

To The West

Another in my Stained Class series, of mosaic paintings. This piece is in part inspired by cultural archetypes. The Wild Wild West is a fable of North America. It's a recurring truth, in a sense. Now it's used as an expression to talk about unregulated situations.

We symbolize it with a few things. Buffalo bones are one of many images associated. Canada is so big, and our prairies so wide, that early settlers were paid to take land and farm it here. Only, the land was not near as fertile as they were promised, and people ended up being forcibly displaced by the government's seizure of any land over oil reserves with little to no compensation. People ended up hunting buffalo almost to extinction, more for their bones than for their meat, because of how much they could get.

Obviously, the wild west is not strictly a Canadian phenomenon. it's American as well. But I am Canadian, so therein lies my focus. History lives within art. I am inspired by the present, the past, and also the future.
