이 프로젝트는 대한민국 부산의 한 창작센터 앞마당(홍티예술촌)에 설치된 작품이다.
이곳은 과거 김 양식과 전어 잡이가 마을 사람들의 생업을 이루던 작은 바다, 포구였다. 그런데 1980년대 산업 개발 미명하에 바다는 모두 매립되었고, 그 위에 대규모 산업 공단이 건립되어 현재까지 이루게 되었다. 그리고 이 창작센터가 바로 그 김 양식장이었던 자리에 위치하고 있다.
2018년 2월 부산의 한 구청에서 이 마을의 이야기를 기억하고 현재와 연결하기 위한 공공 예술품 공모를 하였고, 나는 함께 건축사사무소를 운영하고 있는 남편과 한가지 제안을 하였고, 지난 5월 설치를 완료하였다.
우리의 작업은 이 자리가 "김 양식장"이었던 것과 현재 "공단"인 것에 집중하였다. 우리가 제안한 것은 현재 공단을 상징하는 건설용 비계와 철판을 활용하여 김양식장을 재현하는 것이었고, 그것은 재활용 자재와 바다에서 모을 수 있는 생선 상자 등을 활용하여 제작하였다.
김을 상징하는 철판은 석양 빛으로 물든 오후 5시의 모습으로 오렌지 빛으로 채색하였으며, 현재의 바람에 조금씩 흔들릴 수 있도록 와이어로 매달았다.
이렇게 제작된 이 곳은 이 마을의 휴게공간이다. 마을 사람들은 이곳을 지나거나 여기서 휴식하며, 과거 그들의 생업이었던 "김 양식"의 기억을 떠올리며 쉬어갈 수 있다.

This project was installed in the front yard of a creative center in Busan, South Korea.
It was a small sea port where a laver farm and gizzard fishing used to make a living for the villagers. In the 1980s, however, all of the sea was buried under the name of industrial development, and a large-scale industrial complex was built on top of it and was built to date. And only recently the creative art center is located where a laver farm used to be.
In February 2018, a district office in Busan held a contest of public art installation to remember the village story and connect with the present, and I made a suggestion with husband who is running an architectural firm with me.
Our work focused on what used to be a " seaweed farm" and what is now an " industrial complex. " What we proposed was a reproduction of the seaweed(laver) using the construction scaffolding and iron plates that symbolize the industrial complex, which used recycled materials and fish boxes that could be collected in the sea.
The iron plate, symbolizing the drying rack of laveres, was painted an orange tone in the glow of sunset at 5 p.m. and hung with wires to rock in order to sway little by little in the current wind.
This is the village's rest area. Villagers can walk by and relax here, remembering the memory of "laver farm and drying station, " which was their livelihood in the past.
