"زهرة زرقاء" Blue Flower is a series of self-portraits that started in 2018. The inspiration for this particular piece came from a fathers love for his children and others around the world. زهرة زرقاء was a name given to me from my Darlin Issraa and her sisters Omnia and Soha. The period of my life has been many different hues of blue but unlike most folks, these are the things that oftentimes mould us and keep us together. This painting brings out all the elements included in the other series of paintings I have been working on the last two years. Several birds swim and lay around the painting offering their sacrifice of freedom and provision. I close my eyes so my other senses are more apt to take in the subtle things that other people tend to miss. Upon meeting Israa I have explored uncharted waters in culture, religion, mental illness, addiction across all barriers and boundaries. The title is simply زهرة زرقاء and often goes unexplained because the great language barrier was something we had to find a way through if we wanted to continue to get know each other. I have experienced more and learned more about myself through the eyes of the birds than I ever would have thought possible at my young age. I believe that the arts are going to be the path that eventually brings Issraa and me together for the first time.
