Description
Hello, my name is J.A.R. I have trauma and anxiety (and other mental disorders) I practice mindfulness, a DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) skill, to help cope with my symptoms. Mindfulness is an awareness of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, & behavioral urges. By learning mindfulness, we are empowered to be in charge of ourselves in a different way. It has been proven that awareness assists in emotional regulation. These art pieces are great for practicing the DBT- dialectical behavioral therapy- mindfulness exercises, Observe and describe. Observe the art piece as just an art piece. Then begin describing; describe the colors you see, the textures, etc. Remember that in DBT it is learned that we Observe&Describe 1) non-judgementally, 2) one-mindfully, & 3) Effectively.
It is not necessary to have a mental health disorder to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness helps us all make better decisions in our every day lives.
