I had painted a watercolor study of fabric tied into a knot for a precollege course back in 2014. It wasn't until 2019 that I had this moment of intuition to add a more personal touch to this study. This watercolor study was put under a sewing machine with machine thread color. Then, I had sewn around the study and crocheted out to the edge; creating my own fabric. The crochet is above the paper, meaning that the yarn casts it's own shadows yet it's intended as the background.
