Description

The implication of the ‘Ruins’ is legacy of the past and image of the future at the same time. Because the ruins' image has duplicity of the unfinished and the disruption, the image of the ruins denies the reality of all the existing things of the world. Also it is the contrast of the dynamic and the static.
My works are supported by Sumuk, Chinese ink. Chinese ink is a very sensitive material which focuses more on action than on expression. When I started to draw architectural materials such as ‘wall’, I began to make Korean paper collages to extend the time while Chinese ink becomes absorbed into the paper. (When Chinese ink becomes stained into the layers slowly, it expresses deepening darkness. Various round shapes of machinery image here reflect bottomless silence and ruins of a massive civilization.)
