This body of work highlights my dedication to the preservation of past experience and its relevance to one’s current state of being.
I see my paintings as an honest record of salient life events from the past and the potent emotions born from them which vibrated in my physical being at the time and reverberate in my psyche now.
In reminiscence, I choose to reembody these previous emotional states and reconstitute them as my work. Tapping into “sense memory,” I conjure semblances of past loves; bruise-hued, somber spirits; and frenetically delineated profiles that envelope one another in veils of color. I employ a trembling, stair-stepped line – in a technique I refer to as “aliasing” – to record these momentous encounters and make the temporal past concrete.
Through my methodology forms are often rendered and re-rendered during the course of me “Resonance Memory Reconstruction.” The repetition and obliteration of images leaves ghostly artifacts that imply transient moments in time and the intensity of the extracted experience. The unexpected spaces formed between merging layers of line and color read as fleeting moments fixed in abstracted, yet tangible form.
My process suggests that the emotion manifested by experience need not be lost forever to time, but may be kept aflame in memory and recaptured in the present moment.
